CBP Updates Air Cargo Advance Screening Requirements

CBP Updates Air Cargo Advance Screening Requirements

Washington, D.C., November 21, 2025 — The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced updated Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) requirements, as published in the Federal Register. The rule mandates the submission of additional advance data elements for air cargo shipments entering or transiting the United States. The updates are aimed at enhancing freight security risk assessment before arrival.

Although the rule was published on November 21, 2025, enforcement is phased in over the coming months to allow carriers and freight forwarders to update their systems and processes. CBP emphasized that the additional data elements will help identify high-risk shipments earlier and align with global cargo security standards.

Logistics providers, airlines, and shippers are advised to coordinate closely with their technology and compliance partners to ensure data accuracy and timely submission. Failure to comply could result in shipment delays and increased Customs holds.
