Washington, D.C., January 20, 2026 — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) officially launched a new bid solicitation platform that allows qualified logistics providers, retailers, and parcel operators to competitively access its nationwide last-mile delivery network. The platform opens more than 18,000 delivery units and processing facilities to market-based participation for the first time.
According to USPS, the initiative is designed to improve utilization of its extensive delivery infrastructure while generating additional revenue to support long-term operational sustainability. Historically, access to USPS last-mile capacity has been limited to a small number of large commercial partners under long-term negotiated service agreements.
Under the new framework, approved participants can submit bids based on shipment volume, geographic coverage, and service requirements, enabling more flexible and transparent collaboration between USPS and the private logistics sector.
Industry analysts view the move as a major structural shift in the U.S. last-mile delivery landscape. By opening its network to broader competition, USPS is expected to introduce new pricing dynamics and expand delivery options for shippers, particularly regional carriers and third-party logistics providers that previously lacked nationwide residential reach.
The launch also comes amid broader changes in the U.S. parcel delivery market, as e-commerce growth continues to pressure last-mile capacity and cost efficiency. USPS stated that the bidding platform will be evaluated continuously and adjusted based on market response and operational performance.
